I Lost

About four hours ago, Jack Gilbert won the National Book Critics Circle Award for poetry for his collection, Refusing Heaven.

At least I got into the post-awards reception for free. That's something.

the nomination bears witness

the nomination bears witness to the care, authenticity and diligence you poured into your work. You should be proud. The poetic voice in your first collection allows me to transcend from living mindlessly. Thank you...

Sorry, but...

I still plan on buying your book. I enjoyed your poems on Poetry Daily. And honestly, it's *quite* the accomplishment for a first book. Congratulations! And I hope the reception had good food.

Best,
Kelli R. A.
