Screw Los Angeles
Okay, I finally figured it out, how to have California not be such a significant part of the West Coast Museum Tour: screw Los Angeles. Since I'm going to Las Vegas on the 13th for four days of poker (I play at the Excalibur. Look for me, I'll be the one full of regret.), I'll detour into San Diego for two days to check out the following museums:
San Diego Area:
- San Diego/La Jolla: Museum of Contemporary Art
- San Diego/Balboa Park: San Diego Museum Of Art
- San Diego/Balboa Park: Museum of Photographic Arts
- San Diego/Balboa Park Timken Museum of Art (maybe)
Then I'll be home for a few weeks before the second leg of the West Coast Museum Tour begins, but I'm going to skip (screw) Los Angeles and head right for the Bay Area and start there. This way, there'll be a nice balance between the California part of the trip and the Pacific Northwest part. The second leg, then, will look like this:
Bay Area:
- San Francisco: San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
- Berkeley: U.C. Berkeley Art Museum + Pacific Film Archive
- San Francisco: Asian Art Museum of San Francisco
- San Jose: San Jose Museum of Art
Northern California:
- Sacramento: Crocker Art Museum
Oregon:
- Eugene: University of Oregon Museum of Art
- Portland: Portland Art Museum
Washington:
- Seattle: Henry Art Gallery at the University of Washington
- Seattle: Wing Luke Asian Art Museum
- Seattle: Seattle Art Museum (maybe)
- Seattle: Frye Art Museum (maybe)
- Tacoma: Tacoma Art Museum (maybe)
British Columbia:
- Vancouver: Vancouver Art Gallery
- Vancouver: University of British Columbia Museum of Anthropology (maybe)
I'm passing on Los Angeles for three reasons. 1) I don't want to
spend my vacation driving around Los Angeles day after day; it's just
depressing and/or frustrating. 2) The museums aren't going anywhere; I
can always visit them later on. 3) I want to get a draft of the novel
done this summer, so it's a balancing act between travel and the work.
This way, I'll have more time for my little (three years, on and off)
project.
I'm most excited about the Seattle/Vancouver section of the trip because S, a fellow University of Washington MFA grad, is flying out to Seattle to do the art-nerd/road trip thing with me.
screw me?
we'll miss seeing you, BMD. why not make a special LA trip some other time? I just now, literally ten minutes ago, used the phrase "i could eat." xo Antoine + Chrissy
